Jaden Lake has Autism. He also works at his school’s library, and by everyone’s account, does an exceptional job.
Part of the reason he succeeds is because he has been supported. Individuals on the spectrum often need a little more training in order to firmly establish their work expectations. However, once they are aware of their work responsibilities, they invest 100% in getting the job done.
Each individual on the spectrum is unique; as such, the supports used for each individual are going to vary. For some, it may be demonstrating their work expectations to them for a week. For others, it may be a checklist by their work station to keep them on track. And others still just need a pair of headphones to block out the noise around them. As much as it would be nice to have a definitive definition of Autism: the diagnosis simply does not work that way.
